Activites

We go the extra mile for our residents.

At Heathcote we believe that providing resident’s with stimulating and fulfilling activities is an important part of their quality of life, sense of wellbeing and self-esteem.

Our dedicated activity co-ordinator regularly plans enjoyable, interesting, age appropriate activities such as music and movement sessions, games, reminiscence therapy, painting, gardening and ensures there’s always something to do, regardless of ability. We also support resident’s to continue with any individual hobbies or interests they may have. If they wish resident’s can also participate in familiar household activities such as preparing vegetables, dusting or laying tables.

Heathcote is a member of NAPA and utilise their programs for not only specific dementia orientated activities but also their staff training which is rolled out to all staff who have direct resident contact. We also utilise the POOL Activity Level instrument to ascertain what forms of activities and interventions would best suit our resident’s.

We have specialist dementia software that resident’s can use in varied ways, Skype is available to maintain links family and friends near and far.

The smallest lounge also doubles as our Snoozelen where resident’s can have their senses stimulated in varied ways and is very popular.

The home holds special themed events, in the past these have included occasions such as the Golden Jubilee, the Olympics, Halloween and Guy Fawkes Night.

Heathcote has a secure wheelchair accessible dementia friendly landscaped garden, which resident’s can enjoy throughout the year. Where possible it has been planted with sensory shrubs and plants and has raised beds to allow resident’s to take part in gardening with ease.

We have regular outings to the local community sessions such as the Memory cafe, Musical Memories, church coffee mornings and the cinema etc.

Friends and family are always welcome to join in with any activity, come for afternoon tea or attent the monthly church service.

Resident’s can also be supported to take walks to the nearby shops, parks and beach.
